More Free Math (and Non-Math) Quote Posters

I'm so excited that #Made4Math Mondays is back!  It's simple.  Just share something you made with the #MTBoS on Mondays.

A year ago, I shared with you some free mathematical quote posters I made to hang in my classroom.  I uploaded the files as pdfs so you could print them to hang in your classroom as well.  Click here to see the other math posters I have designed.  The other day, I was going through my computer files trying to bring a semblance of organization to them.  And, what did I find?  More math posters that I made but never shared.  Oops...  Today, I'm going to remedy this problem.  Actually, a couple of them are not even math related.  They're Edmund Hillary quotes that I love!

I first became intrigued to learn more about Edmund Hillary after reading about him in John Ortberg's If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat.

"Failure does not shape you; the way you respond to failure shapes you. Sir Edmund Hillary made several unsuccessful attempts at scaling Mount Everest before he finally succeeded. After one attempt he stood at the base of the giant mountain and shook his fist at it. "I'll defeat you yet," he said in defiance. "Because you're as big as you're going to get--but I'm still growing." Every time Hillary climbed, he failed. And every time he failed, he learned. And every time he learned, he grew and tried again. And one day he didn't fail."
I want my students to view failure as an opportunity to grow.  I'm still not good at that.

The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics. - Paul Halmos

One and one and one is three. - The Beatles

People do not decide to become extraordinary.  They decide to accomplish extraordinary things. - Edmund Hillary

It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves. - Edmund Hillary

Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, or algorithms: it is about understanding. - William Paul Thurston
